Home > Pikmin 3: A new Approach to core Gameplay
Pikmin 3 was one of the more anticipated games for Nintendo's E3 2012 showing. This franchise has not had a new entry, excluding Wii ports, since the GameCube era. Fans may remember all the good times sitting in front of their TV sets playing the first in the series – at least I can, listening to music and playing the original Pikmin game for hours on end.
As you can see – Rock Pikmin allow the player to build stone bridges and utilize the environment in new ways. This new Pikmin type brings with it the ability to smash through solid structures as well as hard outer shells on enemies and opens up many new enemy types when combined with the ability to accurately throw Pikmin towards specific areas.
Above we have a brand new enemy type featured in Pikmin 3. This situation brings forth the new Rock Pikmin to smash through the creatures defenses and expose the fragile parts that another squad of Pikmin would be able to exploit in order to strategically dispose of the beast. That will be one of many times where Rock Pikmin and multiple squads come to the aid of the player.
Being interested does not even explain how I feel about this title – as controlling multiple squads of Pikmin looks to evolve core game play into something that will become truly unique to the franchise. Multiple squads mean more potential strategy techniques and will be one of the biggest appealing factors of Pikmin 3 personally.
Overall, Pikmin 3 has quickly become one of the best Nintendo games of E3 2012 alongside others such as Nintendo Land with the likes of New Super Mario Bros. U losing out. Are you interested in Pikmin 3? What is your favorite new feature?
