How to Travel To and Through The Gate of Time
Skyloft Collectibles
After conquering the Fire Sanctuary, there are a few optional things we can collect. Feel free to skip to the next section if you are only interested in the main quest. From the Fire Sanctuary entrance, run straight across this bridge into the cave. To your left, you'll see some butterflies where you can play your harp to summon a Gossip Stone. In front of it is a soft spot that you can burrow into.
Crawl through the underground tunnels and resurface at the other light spot. Inside this cave, you'll find several fairies and most importantly Heart Piece #20. If you've followed the walkthrough thus far, this should complete another full heart container. Backtrack out of this cave and back to the bird statue afterward.
Goddess Chests
It's time to reap some of the rewards of the Goddess Cubes we've been activating. There are two in the Thunderhead, so make your way to the northwest of the sky and enter it. There is a fairly large island in the southern part of this area called Bug Rock. Land all the way on the top of it, and then drop off onto a small platform to the southwest. Here you'll find a Goddess Chest that contains Heart Piece #21.
Next, you'll want to fly north of here to the Isle of Songs. Land on the very top and open the Goddess Chest here to get a Small Bomb Bag. Fly out of the Thunderhead and fly south towards Fun Fun Island. There is a small island directly under it that you can land on. Open the Goddess Chest here to get 300 rupees.
Rickety Coaster
If you are interested, there is another mini-game we can play now that will net us another piece of heart. Fly on over to Lanayru and land at the Shipyard. Take the path to the right past the two Lizalfos, which you can defeat if you want. Continue forward until you reach the first mine cart.
There is a Goron here named Gortram. He will give you prizes for completing the mine cart tracks with fast times. There is an easier "Scary!" course and a harder "Heart Stopping!" course. These are the exact same as the two mine cart sections we completed earlier. If you complete the easier one in less than 30 seconds, you'll get 100 rupees. If you complete the harder course in less than 65 seconds, you'll get Heart Piece #22.
Of course, the piece of heart is what we are after. It'll probably take a few tries, but you should be able to finish the "Heart stopping!" course in under 65 seconds if you always tilt the correct direction at each turn. Also, remember that the correct directions to take in the course are "right, right, left, right, and right". If you are having a lot of trouble with motion controls, try switching to button-only controls if that is an option.
After collecting the grand prize of this mini-game, head back to the bird statue and return to the sky. Return to Skyloft and find Beedle's Air Shop. If you've been following along, the only item left to buy is the Bug Medal. You should have at least 1,000 rupees, so buy that now.
After you are finished shopping here, sleep in Beedle's bed until night. When you awake, you'll be parked on Beedle's Island. Exit the shop and climb up the ladder here. Hop on over and you'll see a Goddess Chest. Open it to get another Rupee Medal. Go back inside and sleep in Beedle's bed until morning to arrive back at Skyloft.
The only thing left for us to do here is to pay a visit to the Bazaar to configure our loadout. If you have anything left to upgrade, you should do so if possible. If you've been following along with the guide, we have bought almost everything available and have fully upgraded gear. This means that we don't have much use for the Rupee Medal or Treasure Medal anymore. You may want to consider carrying the Bug Medal and an extra Quiver instead. If you don't have one yet, you can buy a Small Quiver for 150 rupees from Rupin.
When you are finished up on Skyloft, take to the skies and fly to the Faron region. Make your landing at the Sealed Grounds statue.
Sealed Grounds
Once you arrive at the Sealed Grounds, run around this new track and enter the Sealed Temple. Speak to the Old One in here and she'll tell you to hit the Gate of Time with a Skyward Strike. However, as you are about to The Imprisoned will awaken once again. Exit the temple through the front door.
Out here Groose will show you what he has been hard at work on. It's called the Groosenator, and it is a cart that can circle this area on rails and catapult bombs below. Afterward, jump down to the center of the grounds and The Imprisoned will rise once again.
This time around, the beast has giant arms. The battle will start in a very similar way to the last one. You'll want to slash away at the toes on his feet. There are three in the front and one in the back. He will step more quickly and send out a red shock wave with each step, making this a little more difficult.
When The Imprisoned tries to climb up to a higher level, switch to using the Groosenator. You can launch a bomb at it, causing him to be briefly stunned. This gives you a small amount of time to attack the toes as well. Once you've taken out all the toes, the beast will fall over and you can run around to its head and swing upward to send the spike into its brain.
After a couple of cycles of this, The Imprisoned will turn red and start sliding up the spiral ramp quickly. You'll need to repeat the whole process again, with even more urgency. You can use the Groosenator to stun the beast for a little while. After one more round striking the spike, the beast will be partially sealed again.
Drop down to the bottom of the area and deliver a Skyward Strike to fully seal The Imprisoned away. Take the air streams back up to the top and enter the Sealed Temple again. After speaking with The Old One and Groose again, you'll finally be able to deliver a proper Skyward Strike to the Gate of Time.
A cutscene will play, and you'll be on the other side of the gate of time, back in the past. Speak to Impa for a little lore, then head through the door in front of you. Here you will be reunited with Zelda.
A cutscene will begin where you learn about the Triforce and the role of Demise. In the end, she will power up your sword again, which will be the final form of the Master Sword. Zelda will then seal herself in a deep slumber, and ask you to wake her when this is over. Afterward, speak to Impa again and then return to your time through the Gate of Time.
A bit more dialogue will transpire between both the Old One and Groose. Groose will also hint that there is a great spot to plant a tree here (keep this in mind for later). Take the eastern exit out of the temple.
Speak to Gorko here, who talks about the nearby butterflies. Play your harp here to make a Goddess Wall appear (we finally have a name for them). Speak to Gorko again and he will tell you what to draw (something like bombs, arrows, hearts, or triforce). Do a Skyward Strike and then draw on the wall. If you draw what he said, you'll get Heart Piece #23. If you mess up, you can save and quit to try again. Afterward, return to the sky and head back to Skyloft.
Broken Crystal Ball Quest
There is one Gratitude Crystal quest that we can complete now. If you aren't interested, you can skip this section to get back to the main quest. Head over to the Bazaar and speak to Croo, who is sitting at a table inside. He'll mention that the fortune teller, Sparrot, hasn't been around lately.
Make your way to Sparrot's House, which you'll find on the far southeastern edge of Skyloft. Speak to Sparrot, who will be in despair because his Crystal Ball is cracked. He'll ask you to find him another, which can be found below the clouds at the top of a mountain. Take to the skies and fly over to Eldin.
Land at the Temple Entrance statue. If you look above the entrance of the Earth Temple to the left, you'll see another crystal ball sitting on a pedestal. Use the nearby air steam to reach a higher platform. From there you can clawshot to the target and reach the Crystal Ball. Fi will call Scrapper to bring this back up to the sky for you (apparently it's no big deal to steal this from a temple).
Take to the skies and head back to Skyloft. Go back to Sparrot's House on the east side. Scrapper will deliver the new crystal ball. To thank you, Sparrot will give you 5 Gratitude Crystals.
Levias
Back to the main quest, make your way to the Knight Academy. Go upstairs and speak to Headmaster Gaepora. He doesn't know about the Triforce, but suggests that a great sky spirit named Levias might. Go to the next room over and speak to Instructor Owlan. He will warn you that Levias is not acting normally and may be possessed.
Owlan will then teach you a new Loftwing maneuver that will be useful in saving Levias. He will set up a practice course for you where you'll need to destroy 10 targets in less than 120 seconds. Although he claims it is difficult, performing the spin attack is a simple button press. There are a ton of targets in this area, so it should be no trouble breaking 10 of them in that amount of time.
After completing the course, you can now use this technique (it replaces your speed boost technique) while flying in the sky. Speaking of which, take to the sky and head to the Lumpy Pumpkin. Speak to the shop owner here, who will task you with offering Levias a large batch of pumpkin soup. Scrapper will come and pick it up for you.
Take to the skies once again and fly all the way across the sky and into the Thunderhead. Once inside, look for the small island with a rainbow above it. Land here and Scrapper will deliver the batch of pumpkin soup. Levias will be able to smell the soup and will be summoned right away.
You'll notice that Levias has indeed been possessed by some monster. You'll need to face him in battle to get rid of it. The key to this battle is to use your new spiral charge attack on the four tentacles attached to his body. Just fly as close as you can and perform the spiral attack on each of the eyes.
Once all the eyes have been destroyed, land on the lighter-colored platform on the back of Levias. The second phase of this battle will begin, against the parasite called Bilocyte. This parasite will shoot nasty green balls at you. Simply slash at them with your sword to reflect them back. You want to send them in the direction of each of its ear flaps.
After the ear flaps are down, you can reflect a ball straight forward into its eye. Shooting an arrow also works but is a little more difficult. The head will then fall and you can slash at its eye.
After repeating that a few times, Bilocyte will begin to move its head around. Simply keep reflecting the green balls back, aiming towards whatever direction his head is facing. After doing this for a while, Bilocyte will be defeated. This will return Levias back to normal.
Levias will thank you for saving him and for bringing him soup. He will also tell you that in order to find the triforce, you need the Song of Heroes. You'll need to visit the dragons of each region to learn all the parts of the song. From here on out, the skies in the Thunderhead will clear and it will be much more welcoming.
Beedle's Missing Beetle
Now that this area is clear, there is another Gratitude Crystal quest we can do. Start off by exiting the Thunderhead, and then immediately re-entering it. Head to Bug Rock, the island in the south we recently found a Goddess Chest on. Speak to Strich, but ignore his mini-game for now. Instead, head back to Skyloft.
Find and enter Beedle's Air Shop. Speak to him and he'll suggest he isn't his usual self. Sleep in his bed until nighttime. Exit the shop onto Beedle's Island. Speak with Beedle by the fire, he mentions he is sad because he is missing his Horned Colossus Beetle. Agree to help him find it.
Head back into his shop and sleep until morning to arrive back at Skyloft. From here, fly back into the Thunderhead and back to Bug Rock. Speak to Strich and he'll mention that he's actually found a Horned Colossus Beetle. In order to get it back, you'll need to play his mini-game. You'll need to catch all ten bugs in less than 3 minutes. Here is a path that should get you there in half that time:
- Travel down the right path. Cross the water. Turn around. Roll into the structure holding the rope. Catch the Woodland Rhino Beetle.
- Jump down the ledge near the log. Carefully catch the Eldin Roller and continue down the path.
- Jump across and catch the Blessed Butterfly. Then, carefully catch the Faron Grasshopper.
- Continue down the path and climb up the ledges. Carefully catch the Sand Cicada near the pots.
- Travel back to where the Faron Grasshopper was and catch another one. Head back to the start.
- Travel across the water again but this time head towards the steep incline.
- Carefully catch the Gerudo Dragonfly and run up the left side of the incline.
- Catch the Eldin Roller and go the opposite direction of the tree due to hornets.
- Catch the Lanayru Ant and break open the three jars and catch the Skyloft Mantis.
After completing the game in less than 3 minutes, Strich will fork over the Horned Colossus Beetle, along with the cage. With this in hand, return to Skyloft.
Find Beedle's Air Shop and speak with him there. Repeat the process of sleeping in his bed until night and speaking with him at his island. He'll thank you for returning his prized bug, and reward you with 5 Gratitude Crystals. Head back into his shop and sleep until morning to return to Skyloft.
If you've been following the guide, you should have 70 Gratitude Crystals. This is enough for a new prize, so pay a visit to Batreaux's House underneath the graveyard. Speak to him here and he will reward you with 600 rupees for collecting 70 Gratitude Crystals. Fi will also register Gratitude Crystals to your dowsing ability.
If you have anything left to buy at the shops, you can use your new rupee haul to do so. Otherwise, they are kind of pointless at this point. There's nothing else to collect at this point, so we'll start back on the main quest in the next part of the walkthrough.
